Valerie was the last cake tasting, and we're so glad we didn't cancel the appointment like we had been thinking about! After tasting dozens of cakes at many different bakeries, we were pretty sick of cakes. As soon as Valerie walked into the Starbucks to meet us (she doesn't have a store front, but she bakes out of a friend's restaurant), we had a feeling she'd be the right one. She was a little late (she had pushed back the appointment once), but she quickly impressed us with her baker-like appearance and beautiful cake presentation. We had requested carrot cake and red velvet cake, and instead of just bringing slices like everyone else, she had made a little cake for us, one half of each, but frosted to look like one. Once we tasted it, all of us (mom, husband, and I) fell in love ... and my husband is very hard to please. My mom doesn't like either of those flavors, and she still agreed that this was the best cake she'd ever tasted. The frosting was perfecting, not filmy, and the cake was moist and yummy! The price we agreed on was totally reasonable, and at the wedding she actually threw in a little extra for us! The cake looked better than the picture we showed her and tasted even better than at our tasting. We loved Valerie and still agree that it was the best cake EVER!
